Steven R. Pruzan

Steven R. Pruzan, a distinguished attorney and national leader in the North American Reform Movement, was inducted onto the Board of Governors of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) on June 9, 2014, after serving on HUC-JIR’s Western Region Board of Overseers since 2007. A partner at Miracle Pruzan & Pruzan in Seattle, WA, he earned his B.A. from Claremont Men’s (now McKenna) College in 1971 and his J.D. from Gonzaga Law School in 1974, where he was an editor of the Gonzaga Law Review. Recognized for his legal expertise, he was elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates and named a Super Lawyer by Washington Law & Politics, and has served on numerous committees of the Washington State Bar Association and the Washington Association for Justice. A lifelong member of Temple De Hirsch Sinai, Pruzan has held leadership roles including President, Board of Trustees member, Executive Committee member, and President of the Brotherhood. For three decades, he has been a dedicated leader within the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), the umbrella organization for nearly 900 Reform synagogues and two million members across North America. He currently serves on the URJ Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee and has previously held roles as URJ Vice Chair, member of the Oversight Committee, Vice Chair of the Worship Commission, and Vice Chair of the Audit Committee. His extensive involvement also includes serving on the Commission on Social Action, the Synagogue Management Commission, the Movement-Wide Dues Policy Review Committee, and the Fund for Reform Judaism. Additionally, he was a member of the Presidential Search Committee that recommended the election of Rabbi Rick Jacobs and served on the ARZA Board.
